Waking up on Christmas morning, walking toward the living room and opening Christmas presents. Then, unwrapping a pair of shoes and going crazy.
Sophomore Maddox Weddle has a shoe collection worth more than $2,000.
Some people might think that not wearing shoes and storing them to collect dust doesn’t make sense, but Maddox thinks otherwise.
“I don’t think buying shoes and not wearing them is stupid because those shoes can go up in price and be worth more than you bought them,” Maddox said.
Maddox says his most comfortable pair of shoes is his black Uggs. Maddox’s favorite shoe brands are Jordan’s and Yeezy’s, but he likes Yeezy more because he said they don’t crease when he walks.
Maddox buys his shoes from multiple places such as Finish Line and Goat. He also trades shoes with his friends.
Maddox doesn’t go through a lot of shoes each week. He says that he wears around two pairs of shoes each week in the winter, but then in the summertime he wears four to five different pairs of shoes a week.
Students at Delta have some pretty expensive shoes. Maddox’s most expensive shoe that he has right now is his Yeezy 350 Beluga. They are worth around $300, but his most expensive shoe of all time is his Off-White Prestos, which are worth around $600.

Maddox has been collecting shoes since seventh grade. Maddox is not the only person at school who has been collecting shoes.
Sophomore Selah Plummer has some expensive pairs of shoes as well, her most expensive being the Jordan 4 White Cements costing $340.
Selah’s collection is worth more than $3,000. She has been collecting shoes for about three years. Her favorite shoe brand is Nike, but her most comfortable shoe is her purple New Balance 550s.
Selah gets most of her shoes from ordering online, but sometimes she finds nice shoes from the thrift store. She has around 15 to 20 pairs of shoes.
“It’s easier to match and wear with clothes the more shoes that you have,” Selah said.
Selah wears around seven different pairs of shoes a week. Selah says that she does not try to protect her shoes.
However, there is a student who protects his shoes a lot. Freshman Luke Atkinson says that he sprays a water repellent on his shoes.
Luke also puts his shoes in a plastic container purposely designed to store shoes. Luke has been collecting shoes since the fifth grade. He started collecting shoes because he used to watch videos on people who bought and collected shoes.
Luke’s most expensive pair of shoes is his orange Adidas Ultraboosts, which cost around $200. His entire shoe collection cost more than $2,000.
His most comfortable shoe that he has is his New Balance 2002r’s. His favorite shoe that he has is his black and white Nike Dunks with the gum bottom. The gum bottom just means the bottom of the shoe is tan.

His dream shoe that he wants is Travis Scott’s Airmax 1’s Baroque Brown. The shoe costs around $250.
“I want the Travis Scott Airmax because it’s cool and is an expensive shoe to own,” Luke said.
