She takes aim at her target goal. She makes her throw. Bullseye. She is Makayla Rogers, and she is axe throwing.
Axe throwing is an up-and-coming entertainment attraction for young people, but what makes it different for Rogers is she owns the business.
Rogers’ father bought his soon-to-be Ball State University business major Mad Axe Muncie, an axe throwing business in downtown Muncie.
“He had known that I was going to Ball State to study business because I wanted to start my own, so he bought it,” Rogers said.
She currently plays softball as an outfielder for Delta. She said her brother got her into softball originally and he taught her how to play, hitting balls as hard as he could at her to teach her how to field.
She said her two best friends that have been with her the longest are Aurora Ledbetter and Jazlan Montero. One of the things they enjoy doing together is playing softball.
She said she enjoys her job working with the animals because it allows her to disconnect and build her work ethic.
“I like it there, because you don’t have to deal with people, and you can just deal with dogs,” Rogers said. “I like it there because you have to work, but not many people actually like to work.”
Rogers is thinking of opening her own kennel after graduating college, using what she learns about business and what she’s already learned working with animals.
