More Eagles in the Nest

Students might move schools because of new jobs, divorces or other reasons. For Zachary Skidmore (pictured above), he moved schools for a very different reason: he didn’t like Muncie Central’s academics.

“I didn’t think that they were working me hard enough,” he said. “Delta’s a lot more demanding. It’s a lot more work and they just assign a lot of new stuff.”

Skidmore is one of seven new transfer students who began at Delta with the start of the second semester.

Skidmore also has played basketball his whole life and he is doing track this year. He enjoys watching tv shows, playing sports and lifting weights.

He said his favorite artist is Bryson Tiller. His go-to snacks are waffles. He also has three sisters.

He said he likes to work alone.

“It lets me think better and I get work done faster like that,” he said.

Bryson said a big challenge he has faced since he came to Delta has been keeping up with all the new work.

He learned to talk to teachers.

“Communication with your teachers is important to keep your grades up,” said, adding that you need to do it whether you feel like it or not.

Senior Izzy Peters moved for a way more common reason. She moved    because her dad’s job changed. He worked at a company but he had to be in the office more so they needed to move closer to Indianapolis.

She attended Homestead High School in Fort Wayne before she came to Delta.

Her first impression was the people are really nice and the teachers are helpful

“To me, it’s just really small,” Izzy said.

Homestead is a school with about 2,400 students, which is three times bigger than Delta, which has about 800.

“My most challenging class has been speech because I have never taken a speech class, but the teacher has been very helpful and made it easier,” Izzy said.

She said her favorite class is Ceramics because it’s fun for her.

Izzy likes to go to Tippecanoe Lake. When she’s there she goes boating and jet skiing and surfing. She also hangs out with her friends and spends time with her family

She has two brothers. One is a sophomore and one is in eighth grade. They both attend Delta.

“Jackson is a sophomore on the basketball team and my other brother is in middle school,” Izzy said.

She says she likes to work alone because in a group she talks the whole time. She sometimes has trouble meeting new people, but her best advice is to “just be yourself.”

She made one new friend, Jaelyn Morris, a senior who moved here this year, too.

Izzy was worried because they didn’t use lockers at her old school and she didn’t know anyone here, but she has been able to overcome it during her journey at Delta High School.

The Jones boys are two brothers who came from Carmel High School. Their names are Korbin Jones and Konner Jones.

Korbin, a senior, said he is good at engineering. He said his hardest class has been chemistry while his favorite class is construction. Korbin likes that class because it is all hands on outside of school

Korbin likes to play video games and chill. He plays Fallout, Minecraft and the basics.

His favorite subjects are math and English.

“You need them to advance in life,” he said.

His brother Konner, a sophomore, said his favorite class is ceramics, which he says is “just like building your imagination.”

He likes to hang out with his mom and shop for clothes. He is looking forward to making new friends.

Some of his other favorite subjects are geography and biography.

“In biology you get to learn how everything works and in geography you learn about history and what happened in the past,” he said.

Konner likes to listen to rap and country music.

He is very passionate about gaming. He hasn’t made any new friends yet, but is really looking forward to making friends as he attends this new school.

Bradley Burgan is a freshman who transferred here from Daleville High School.

He said he moved schools because of houses and rent.

His first impression of Delta was not good.

“I mean originally I wanted to go back because I didn’t think it was a good place, but now that I’ve been here longer I like it,” Bradley said.

Bradley is interested in possibly joining football. This is a sport Daleville didn’t have.

He likes to go to the Daleville park a lot and walk around and have fun.

He has made a couple of friends, including Chase Flannery, but is still working on getting more friends.

Bradley was concerned about moving to Delta.

“I thought that I wouldn’t do well and I wouldn’t have the best grades, “ Bradley said.

Some of his favorite subjects are math, physical education and health. He is passionate about the weight room.

He said he has three siblings that go to Delta Middle School as well as other siblings.

Bradley said Delta is more challenging for him, but he’s ready to try hard.

“Never give up on all this,” he said.
