Unbreakable Bonds

By Annie Ewry

From sharing birthdays to riding bikes together, the bond that forms between a set of twins is one that is unmatchable. Some might call it a built-in best friend.

Freshmen Alivia and Alaina Hirst took on the world together in November 2009.

Alivia said as young kids she and her sister were playing together in their tree house and swinging from a rope they had tied to the tree. The rope ended up snapping while Alaina was swinging and she fell to the ground. She said the way Alaina landed on the ground was almost like it was a part of a cartoon.

Alivia sat at the top and had the best laugh of her life. Some might take this in a mean way, but this is just two twins sharing their love for each other.

“We always had each other,” Alivia said.

The Hirst twins were inseparable growing up. They never left each other’s side.

These girls have much in common. They love eating Mexican food, going for walks, playing softball, and drawing.

Although Alivia is a more outgoing person, Alaina is more on the shy side.

Alaina says she couldn’t imagine how life would be if she didn’t have her sister.

They always had each other, whether it was the smallest mishap or the biggest.

Growing up together sophomores Abe and Gus Witter were an inseparable pair.

“I was never alone,” Abe said. “I always had someone to do something with.”

Abe and Gus were really close growing up, whether they were playing football or eating Subway sandwiches together while painting a house.

Gus says one of his best memories with Abe is when he kicked off the ball during a football game and Abe caught it and started screaming because they won the game from that play.

Even though they grew up really close with each other, they have their major differences. This is especially true with their appearances. Abe has straight, blonde hair and wears boots and jeans. Gus on the other hand has dark curly brown hair and is taller.

While Abe is more on the social side, Gus is more of an introvert.

These two have many great memories and will continue to make more.

Juniors Grier and Grey Backus grew up arguing all the time but soon became each other’s shoulder to lean on.

“We had to be separated during church because we fought so much,” Grier said.

Growing up they became really close but also argued all the time. They had to be in separate classes just so they wouldn’t bicker.

Most people are quick to think that twins are going to have very similar attributes but in this case that is not true.

While Grier has blonde hair and blue eyes, Grey has brown hair and green eyes.

With being a boy and a girl comes their many differences.

Grier loves going to and being involved with the church.

Grey is more of a go out and hangout with friends type of person.

Grey is loud, Grier is quiet.

“We got in trouble as kids a lot and she stuck up for me and I stuck up for her,” Grey said.

Even though they argued a lot, they always made sure to have each other’s backs.

For Grier the best part of growing up with Grey was getting to have someone to share her birthday with.

Even with all of the disagreements, Grier and Grey always knew they had someone they could lean on during tough times.
