Who wants to put random shaped blocks together in their free time?
You’ve probably seen it before – the game where people place blocks into an 8-by-8 square.
Well, it has a name. Block Blast!
Block Blast is No. 1 on free puzzle games in the app store.
Many are addicted to the simple puzzle game.
“They should play Block Blast if they want to beat themselves,” sophomore Lilah Carter said.
This puzzle game has many people using their brain to place the blocks.
Carter got the game when it first came out in 2022. She spends about 30 minutes a day placing the colorful blocks.
She uses the game in more ways than one.
“When I can’t sleep I play Block Blast so I’m not endlessly scrolling,” Carter said.
Freshman Addisen Maurer said she can play it and not get interrupted as much as other games. Maurer has a high score of 20,600.
Her strategies are to get a clear board. She started playing the game in the summer of 2023.
Many students’ top scores are just below 10,000, but sophomore Griffin Wilson has achieved a towering score of 52,221.
Wilson has only had this game for a couple of months.
He plays the game 30-40 minutes a day. Wilson thinks this trend will last for a year.
Not all teenagers are raving about Block Blast.
“I can’t just sit there and play with the blocks,” sophomore Kali Evans said. “I need to be more amused.”
Evans believes this game is a micro trend and isn’t going to last more than a month.
Senior Brylee Beckley had her last high school cheer state championship in Ocotober. She decided the night before to play Block Blast and she crushed her score of 7,000 to 11,752!
“That was a good sign,” she said. “It was awesome actually.”
The next day Beckley and her teammates won state.
