A majority of people are excited about March for good weather, time to relax, and spring break, but for some, it’s the best time of the year because of college basketball.
Senior Blake Jones is a March Madness superfan.
“Since I was a little kid I fell in love with basketball and March Madness is all about basketball,” Jones said. “My dad showed me and described what March Madness was and all about.”
March Madness is the nickname for the college basketball NCAA Division 1 tournament. The selections and pairings for the 2023 tournament will be announced on Sunday, March 12th.
Every year for the last four years, Jones has run a bracket pool where people can join and compete.
Last year the pool had 75 participants. This year he’s shooting for 100.
“I think it’s fun getting people in a group to compete and play, and I just love watching March Madness,” Jones said.
He plans to grow the league by using social media and reminding people who participated in former years to join.
Jones has also been a huge fan of the Indiana University Hoosiers since he was younger.
“I like the intensity of competing in tournaments,” sophomore Marcus Bright said.
Liking the competitiveness of tournaments is a common thing amongst March Madness fans. Another sophomore, Zane Cline, agrees.
“I like competing with my friends and family, and then watching the games and rooting for the team you chose to win,” Cline said.
